The Department of Economics is offering two graduate assistantships for the academic year 2003-2004. Assistants are paid according to university rates for the academic year plus full tuition remission; next year=s amounts haven=t been determined.
The graduate assistants are required to successfully complete at least 9 graduate credit hours each term toward a graduate degree in economics. They will work 15 hours per week assisting the faculty with their teaching and research. Depending on qualifications, they may be assigned to tutoring our Principles courses, advising undergraduates, assisting in the Econometrics Lab or helping faculty members on research projects.
At the end of each term, the Graduate Program Committee will review the performance of graduate assistants to ensure that they have fulfilled the university and department requirements for maintaining the assistantships. In addition to the university eligibility requirements (see Terms of Appointment), the graduate assistants are expected to (1) maintain a GPA of 3.0 GPA or above each term for each course, and (2) perform satisfactorily in all duties each term. The appointment of graduate assistants may be terminated anytime due to unsatisfactory evaluation of their services or academic performance.
If you are interested in applying for one of these
assistantships:
1. Fill out the application forms (page 3 and enclosed GO-
8). Return them to the Department of Economics Office by
May 5, 2003. Include a description of all relevant
experience and qualifications.
2. For second year students include your course record in
the graduate program, and at least two (2) letters of
recommendation from faculty.
3. For first year students include GRE results and at least
Two letters from faculty familiar with your work.
